I am Kamisketsa and I come from Kotagede, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. My username “kamisketsa” is from two words: “kamis” which means Thursday and “sketsa” which means sketch. I use that name because I did my first sketch on a Thursday morning. Since that day, I have always uploaded a sketch on my Facebook page every Thursday. I also upload photos of places that I sketch.

My culinary sketches started from my morning routines in August 2015. Every morning, I biked around 1 kilometer to throw away some household litter. One day on my way back home I bought a meal to eat. On the next morning, I sketched while waiting for the food to be ready.
Then, it wasn’t only in the morning that I sketched. I sketched whenever I bought food, noon and night, especially traditional food. Day after day, I think that sketching is fun and I like my local culture. By the way, Kotagede (my hometown) was an old town before it was a huge palace in my wide country. So we can find a whole lot of traditional food sellers at many places in Kotagede.

Long before my culinary sketches, my sketching started about a year before, after I read Tokyo on Foot by Florent Chavouet. For my sketching, I bought a 12 color Koi watercolor pocket sketch box and drawing pens (0.1, 0.4 and 0.6). I used these for my first journey sketches of Chiang Mai. Now, I often use 0.05 Pigma Micron for outline and B.B. Pigma brush pen for headline text.

I start with a rough sketch using a mechanical pencil, just to make sure objects are in the right proportion. Then I adjust outlines and detail. After I feel it’s enough, I start coloring with my watercolor. Lastly, I add a headline with my brush pen.
The first time I used watercolor for my artwork was 2010, when I studied visual communication design at Indonesia Institute of Arts, Yogyakarta. Now, I work as a graphic designer and illustrator. I love vector art. I love movies, traveling, culinary arts, local culture and bunnies. My artwork is centered on those things. You can see more of my artwork and design on my other Instagram feed (@imamzack).
For me, sketching is a lovely activity that makes me relax in the middle of my work activities. Thanks for reading!
